What Is Bisexuality?
July 07, 2004, 4:05 PM

Perhaps one of the most misunderstood, and least accepted lifestyles, bisexuality is merely affinity towards both genders.

Though often lumped in with homosexuality and lesbianism, actually bisexuality has little if anything in common with those lifestyles. For one thing, both gays and lesbians oft express a grave distaste for the opposite gender. And while both may well deny this stated fact, both equally exhibit opinion to the contrary. Neither gay nor lesbian truly accepts their opposite genders. Gays dislike heterosexual women, and lesbians dislike heterosexual men. My honest opinion is that both express a kind of gender hatred. In fact, the only reason that a gay or lesbian individual can get along with the other, is what they have in common gays desire only to be with men, hence avoiding the opposite gender, and lesbians desire only to be with women, likewise avoiding the opposite gender. For that reason, a gay and lesbian may well be friendly towards the other, because it is understood that both seek similar intent, to avoid opposite genders. Many of them will not accept bisexuals. Furthermore, lesbians and gays oft express concern that a bisexual individual is merely lukewarm (i.e. that he or she is neither heterosexual, lesbian or gay).

Bisexuals are usually not trusted by either heterosexual, lesbian, or gay individuals. Why? Because it is presumed that since a bisexual person prefers both genders, that he or she can't be trusted, e.g. could not commit to a monogamous relationship. This, of course, is not necessarily true. Otherwise, bisexuals oft get lumped in with so-called swingers, because of fact that they are attracted to both genders. Again, bisexuals are perhaps the most discriminated group on the planet, aside from, perhaps, people with mental disabilities.

Realistically, bisexual people are quite capable of faithful relationships, if given the opportunity. Best perhaps is that a bisexual marry or become attached to either another bisexual, or at least someone accepting of this lifestyle. Otherwise, bisexuals differ little from others. They entertain religious, political and social notions. Many are capable parents. Some are more educated than others. Because of their lifestyle, some bisexuals may be more open-minded and accepting of varying lifestyles, religious, political or social principles.

Thanks Rene. I hope people (myself included) think differnt about some everyday things.
