Opening
- Sign in at
the green room ask them for the tin box
- Go to
security and sign out the front gate keys and radio
- Go into
admin and get everything that is in the GATE HOST folder (that is on the green room door

coming / important information from the admin staff
- Walk over to
the gates Put your personal things away in the bottom of the middle
cupboard
- Turn on the
radio, and put the radio on your skirt (pants)
- Keep the
radio on you at all times!
- Take out the
ride, kids only, b-fast, characters, and any other important signs for the
day
- Put the
character sign in front of the garbage
- Put the
kids sign beside it
- Put the
b-fast sign � way down the hill
- This is so
people can see it.� If you put the
sign too close to the top of the hill people will stand in front of it
and the sign becomes useless
- Put any
other signs beside the kids sign
- Unlock the
Pass gate
- Unlock gate
1 and / or 3
- Put the exit
sign away
- Unlock gate
2 (if needed)
- Get out the
4 daily clip boards
- Get out
everything in the accordion� file
for that day
- Put the
booking sheet, Duty Roster Function Sheets, event info and anything for
us from the GATE HOST
folder for the day on the clipboard labelled Daily clip booking &
info
- Put the
daily count sheet and the under 3/ free count sheet on the clipboard
labelled daily clip count
- Put
motor-coach form (especially if any are booked, but it�s a good idea to
have one on hand in case of any drop-ins) on the clip board labelled
daily clip motor-coach
- Put all
the surveys on the clip board labelled daily clip interview
- record
breakfast ticket start number on the daily count sheet
- get out all
the stamps for the day and put them in the tin box
- 2 ride
stamps, The Train stamp, The re-entry stamp, The date stamp, The cow and
horse stamp
- get out
maps and the happenings for the day
- inform
cashier of any large ride tickets that will be needed to be counted out
- put out
umbrellas (if needed) and ride stick and the ride list
- �turn on the music but going into the
guest care center, and above the gate 3 till hit power, power, shuffle,
repeat, play (make sure the volume isn�t higher then 9 o�clock)
- open gates
at 9:00 (when you hear the bell at town hall)
None of this takes very long; you should
have most every thing on this list done before the 9:00 person arrives for
their shift.
During the Day
- check passes, hand stamp accordingly
- this includes IDing every nanny, and putting the happy face
stamp on the pass if it isn�t the nanny�s
- Make sure that ALL the passes are signed, if they are not get
the person to sign the card RIGHT THEN AND THERE!� (yes even the kids)
- If the kids cannot sign, we need the parent or guardian to
sign the pass for the kid!� PLEASE
MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS!
- �Also do random ID
checks, it is good to get in the habit of asking every sixth person or
so for identification!
- hand out breakfast tickets (until 10 am) and maps (all day)
- 10 am: stop handing out breakfast tickets, record ticket
number and calculate total breakfast tickets given away.� Call Gunn�s Dairy barn with the count
- Apologize to any unhappy patrons arriving after 10 that as per
the signage, the free breakfast ends promptly at 10 am.
- Bring in free breakfast sign
- process any groups (booked or drop-in, school group or motor
coach) See Note About school Groups and Motor
Coaches
- complete required surveys for the day
- answer any customer questions
- keep area clean (swept) and organized
- File any passes in the appropriate section of the box (e.g. day
passes, corporate day passes, and motor coach vouchers) as they come make
sure to date every piece of paper etc.
- complete the headcount every hour as per the daily count sheet
School Groups
- meet bus with daily booking sheet and a pen in hand
- it is a good idea to have maps ready for the adults as they
usually request them
- direct kids (and adults) to stay on the bus and take the adult
who is paying to an available cashier (the same one who counted the
tickets if applicable)
- Confirm number of kids and adults paying as well as any
complimentary adults BEFORE reaching the cashier.� Then tell the cashier �I have (this
many) paying and (this many) comps.��
Also, state any ride tickets/stamps that are needed.� It makes things run a lot more smoothly
- stay with adult until payment is processed
- go back to bus and direct people through the opera house gate �
help herd group through as quickly and efficiently as possible (avoid
large crowds out front)
- close and lock opera house gate when all scheduled groups are
through
- ***If multiple busses arrive, tell all of them to stay on the
busses and you will be with them shortly; handle them in the order in
which they arrived.� If there are
three hosts or two capable volunteers, two hosts can help with
schools.� If there is no way you can
handle it by yourself, call for help (radio Sue, ask a cashier.� It is better to ask for help then to get
yourself into trouble)***
Motor coach Groups
- meet bus with motor coach sheet, daily booking sheet, and pen
in hand
- confirm numbers and any rides/lunch/breakfast tickets that will
be needed
- remember, a train ride is included with the cost of the motor
coach fee so all people must get a train stamp on the way in
- they generally all will want a map
- fill out the motor coach sheet, making sure to get either a
business card or contact information from the tour guide
- both you and the tour guide sign the sheet
- take the tour guide to an available cashier (the same one who
counted the tickets if applicable)
- Confirm number of kids and adults BEFORE reaching the
cashier.� Then tell the cashier �I
have (this many) adults and the motor coach rate and (this many) kids at
the motor coach rate.�� Also, state
any ride tickets/stamps that are needed.�
It makes things run a lot more smoothly

- give the pink copy of the motor coach form � you keep the
yellow copy and the white copy
- Return to bus, direct people off and through the seasons pass
gate (or gate 3).� These people are
generally seniors and love it if you smile and/or say �hello� or �welcome�
to each of them
End of Day
- At 3:00pm put the sign that says �heritage park Closes at 5:00
PM Today� in a well placed spot out side the gates (usually near the ride
stick)
- If guest start asking to coming in at this point, inform them
that we do close at 5:00pm and we do suggest 3 hrs to see the park, there
is still time to do the main town, but they are unlikely to see all of
the park in the time that is left, you might also want to inform them
that if the come back the next day between 9:00 -10:00 am there is a FREE
pancake breakfast
- After 3:30pm redo the character interpreter sign with all the
information for the next day, there are daily events that happen every day
and they need to be put on the sign, if you don�t know ask or look at the
happenings sheet for the next day
- ����������� Do the same thing with the Kids only sign after
4:00pm
- Take Down the umbrellas after the kids only sign is done and
put away
- Bring in the ride stick and the ride sign
- Lock gates 1, 2, 3, when you here the 5:00pm bell ring at Town
Hall
- Bring in the 5:00 Sign and get the Exit through security sign
reedy to put out.
- collect any comment cards and file in box (with the day�s date)
- complete daily count sheets with under 3 sheets from all gates
(including season�s pass)
- file all papers in appropriate places in grey box
- make sure everything has the correct date on it, use the date
stamp if there are many passes etc
- After the last train gets in and most of the people have left,
the park (roughly around 5:15) turn off music by pushing BOTH!� Power buttons!
- Stand but the exit gate to say good bye to all the people
leaving and to answer any last moment questions
- After 5:30 check the stores to see if there are people still
left
- If there are, you must wait till the stores are empty before
you can lock the final gate
- If the stores are empty you need to lock the Pass gate and put
out security sign
- Double check to makes sure all the gates are lock the cupboards
are bolted
- Say good Bye the people still working (this is so they know
that the pass gate is locked and the park is closed)
- return keys and radio to security (find the 8:30 persons name
and sign yours beside there�s)
- return box to greenroom
- sign out
